sleepy eyes

On exhibition at VK Gallery in Amsterdam during 23-30 October 2010.

The 'Episodes' project was a collection of ten works of art produced by ten visual artists in support of ten original compositions produced by singer-songwriter Jacob Arch. This project resulted in a unique and engaging multimedia exhibition, whereby each Episode was displayed in three forms: an original work of visual art, headphones playing the song which inspired the work of art, and the printed song lyrics. An art booklet was also produced with the boxed CD in support of the release, containing all the works of art side-by-side with the accompanying song lyrics.

Sleep Eyes is the Episode that I created in support of this complex group exhibition. I chose a subject for this piece to demonstrate the song's central theme: a coy woman, flirting with love but full of reticence.

a heartbreak in four seasons

On exhibition at Distelweg 113 in Amsterdam during 12-20 June 2010.

This photo installation was in cooperation with several other artists for the exhibition "kunst in naam der kunst", art for art's sake. The focus of this series was to create something complementary to the rough feeling of the space. I decided to make the installation akin to a dysfunctional family's living room collection of photos: holiday pictures, portraits, seemingly random photos from life experience that aggregate together to form an emotional image, held together desperately with duct tape. In this series, the "dysfunctional family" in question is simply one individual (me), and the structure given to the series is four seasons of a heartbreak:
descent, nadir, zenith and baseline.

fixed

Presented at Milk studios in New York City, 31 October 2008.

The project 'fixed' was a short-term project constructed as part of a Magnum workshop in New York City, October 2008. The intention of the project was to capture the spirit of a short story about a man in love with a woman who has left him. The themes explored in the process were obsession, longing, searching, restlessness, distance and emotional discontent. The finished series is a hunt through the city, dominated by imagery of women, often elusive and dream-like.
